Background and Admissions

​

Kirby graduated from University of Missouri-Kansas City Law School in 2004.  Kirby is admitted in Missouri, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.  Kirby has worked in the areas of family law litigating highly contested divorce and modification cases, and also litigating matters involving complex insurance coverage, bad faith cases against insurance companies, personal injury, and wrongful death cases.  Kirby's practice focuses on family law, personal injury, and business law but he is also well versed in intellectual property law, contracts and entertainment law, employment law including Americans with Disabilities Act claims, as well as appellate practice, successfully arguing in front of the Missouri Court of Appeals-Western District.  Kirby has successful bench trial and jury trial experience in both State and Federal Courts.

The Discipline Behind the Practice

For over 20 years, Kirby Minor has approached the practice of law as a discipline. A 3rd Degree Black Belt in Judo with over 40 years of martial arts experience (Kendo, Aikido, Karate, Wing Chun), including being a member of the U.S. High School Judo Team and training in Japan. Kirby brings a unique "Warrior Mindset" to the Jackson County Family Court.

Beyond the courtroom, Kirby’s background is defined by a global perspective, having served in the Japan Exchange Teaching (JET) Programme before earning his Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from UMKC School of Law. This combination of international experience and local courtroom tenacity allows him to remain a calm, decisive force in the middle of his clients' most stressful life transitions.
